The blue forest, Hallerbos — Belgium

Hallerbos or Halle's wood is a scenic 552 hectares (5.5 km²) beech forest. It is located in the Belgian province of Halle, the border between Flanders & Wallonia, 30 minutes south-east of Brussels. The Belgium forest is well-known for the exceptional beauty that envelopes them in spring. Many hectares of forest is covered in a thick carpet of millions upon millions of bells (wild Hyacinths) every year between late April and May. Ultramarine blankets extend as far as the eye can reach. Hallerbos forest as far as the eye can see circles the trees, carves valleys, and beautifies stream banks. It is very popular with both Belgian and foreign beauty connoisseurs.

Bluebells forest Belgium

When the beech leaves begin to come to life in the spring, The blue forest of Belgium becomes especially picturesque and mystical. For the first 7-10 days, delicate leaves have a light green hue, which is beautifully combined with flowering bells. Then, through the canopy of young leaves, sunlight still pours freely and reaches the flowers, creating a bright blue-violet colour.

The Blue Forest acquires its special charm at dawn - at this time, the area is enveloped in the morning dawn, and the thick fog further emphasizes its mysterious and surreal atmosphere. For the sake of completeness, a wonderful natural landmark is best visited early in the morning or in the evening, when the aroma of bells is strongest. Gathering flowers in the Belgium bluebell forest is prohibited.

The presence of such a large number of flowers suggests that this place has a fairly ancient history. A carpet of bells has been growing here for several centuries, while the trees growing in the bluebell forest Belgium have nothing to do with this figure. Hallerbos, formerly part of Europe's largest beech forest in Belgium, stretching across the southern part of Brussels. It was destroyed during the First World War, although some ancient oak and beech trees survived the devastation and are still found in the blue forest Halle Belgium. After the end of the war, a greening program was implemented, the results of which can be seen today in Hallerbos.

Close to the Brussels metropolitan area, south of Halle lies a piece of the forest full of magic. In spring, the harebells, a type of blue hyacinth, bloom there for about three weeks. In many places, the forest looks like someone has laid a huge blue carpet. Millions of Belgian bluebells bloom in the Blue Forest every spring. Hallerbos means "Forest of Halle". According to the approximate calculations, the age of the unique blue forest is about 400 years. The researchers believe that such extensive hyacinth thickets formed on its territory over the course of a few centuries. After World War I, most of the old trees were removed by German forces and the Belgian government took over Hallerbos from the Arenberg family as compensation for the war. Today the bluebell forest is the unique ecosystem that serves as a habitat for rabbits, deer, and rare birds. If you are lucky you can meet the bluebells forest dwellers during the hike.
