Ifrane: The Little Switzerland of Morocco

At first glance, Ifrane can make you wonder whether you have somehow left Morocco. Instead of the ochre-coloured buildings and bustling medinas commonly associated with the country, you find red-roofed houses, carefully maintained streets, green parks, mountain air, and, in winter, snow. This unusual town is located high in the Middle Atlas Mountains of Morocco, about 70 kilometres from Fez. At roughly 1,650 metres above sea level, Ifrane has a cooler mountain climate and a landscape of forests, lakes, and rocky hills. Morocco's National Tourist Office itself calls Ifrane “the little Switzerland”, a nickname inspired by its architecture, greenery and alpine appearance.

Its name derives from the Latin circus, which means a circle, oval, or ring. It is a Grade I listed structure. The Circus is divided into three equal-length segments, with a grassy area in the middle. Each segment faces one of 3 entrances, so a classic façade is always visible.

Palmanova: The Italian City Built as a Nine-Pointed Star

Fly over northeastern Italy, and you'll spot something that looks like it belongs on a military blueprint rather than a map — a perfect nine-pointed star, carved into the flat farmland south of Udine. That's Palmanova, a remarkable fortress city whose streets and walls were planned around a precise geometric design. It was drawn on paper first, then built exactly as planned.

Vietnamese Turned A Five-Storey House Into A Vertical garden

Vietnamese turned a five-storey house into a vertical garden, located in the Dong Da district of Hanoi. This is one of the most exclusive landmarks in the Vietnamese capital: a 5-storey building completely covered by a bright green curtain. The so-called "living building" of Hanoi is the work of Prof. Dr. Hoang Nhu Tang, a former professor at the University of Civil Engineering in Hanoi and a resident of this unique building. It all started 30 years ago, in 1990, when it was one of the tallest buildings in the region, which basically meant that there was almost no shelter from the scorching sun during the summer.

Jodhpur Blue City: Why the Houses Are Painted Indigo?

Tucked against the golden edge of the Thar Desert, Jodhpur is a city that surprises first-time visitors the moment they climb any high point in town. Instead of the sandy browns you'd expect in a location this close to a desert, the old quarter unfolds below in wave after wave of blue rooftops and blue walls. Locals and travel writers alike call it the Blue City, and once you've seen it from above, the name makes perfect sense. But Jodhpur is more than a striking colour scheme; it is a living, working city with its own history, culture, and reasons for painting itself as it is.
