Ifrane, a city that bears a very particular nickname: the little Switzerland of Morocco. Ifrane is located at an elevation of 1,665 m. In Tamazight, the regional Berber language, "Ifran" means caves. The capital of the province of the same name is located in the administrative region of Fez-Mequínez.

Ifran was established by the French at the end 20s to seek European similarities. The architecture and urban design of the city have a clear European touch. There are chalets with gabled roofs and rectangular floor plans. This makes it an alpine town and has been given the nickname of Moroccan Switzerland. It is one of the most beautiful spots in Morocco. Perfect for active holidays or stunning scenery. This hill station was popular to escape the heat of Fez and Meknes. Most Moroccans moved to Ifrane after independence. Ifrane, Morocco is now a popular tourist destination in the Marrakech Desert throughout the year.

Numerous parks and green spaces surround the city. One of the most frequented is the park in the centre of the city, called "La Pradera de Los Amores" which is opposite the Royal Palace. It is surrounded by huge trees and flowers and has tracks for a walk.
The Lion of Ifrane
It is a monument that is considered one of the city's emblems. This is undoubtedly one of the most photographed spots in the region. According to some, Henri Moreau, a German or French prisoner who sculpted this stone sculpture during the Second World War.

The waterfalls are the refuge — The enchanting sight of the waterfall refuge can be seen on the road to Zaouia Moulay Abdessalam. It is located about ten kilometres from the city. The waterfalls become even more impressive when the High Atlas snows melt. This is a great place to have a picnic or cool off during hot days.

Ifrane Maroc is also a popular place to host international meetings. However, this city has one of the best universities in the country, Al Akhawayn University. Although it isn't the biggest, it is certainly the most elite. Only the children from the richest families in Morocco can study here.
