The Xi'an City Wall, China

As you know, China is renowned for its traditional architecture. The construction symbolises the considerable effort and thought that went into it. The Xi'an wall is the first landmark of Xi'an, one of the city's most attractive parts. The ancient city wall stretches around the old city, just like a fort.

Now, the wall is considered a landmark that divides the city into the inner city and the outer city. The two main entrances of the inner city are the South Gate and the North Gate. Due to the wall, the city is arranged very clean and systematically. The first city wall in Xi'an was built during the Ming Dynasty under the emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. This period was when the city served as the capital of the empire. In 1374-78, workers built the foundation of the old wall layer by layer, creating a strong wall. Between the Layers are connected with slaked lime and gluten rice extract, tamped together. It's made the wall strong and tough. The later wall was totally renovated with bricks and stone. The large wall, like a fort, ran around the city. At the top of the wall, brick drains are placed every 40-60 metres. They are used for drainage, a crucial part of the long-term protection of the city wall of Xi'an. A moat, wide and deep, surrounds the old city.

The wall reaches a height of 12-14 metres, has a base width of 18-15 metres, a top width of 15 metres, and a length of 13.7 kilometres. There is a rampart every 120 metres along the wall along the wall. The 98 ramparts are towers that extend out from the main wall. The ramparts were built to allow soldiers, enemies, and outsiders to try to climb the wall. The distance between the ramparts is within the range of arrow shots from either side. The city wall protected the city, closing from four sides. The wall is built in the form of a quadrangle, reflecting the traditional thinking of the ancient Chinese, and it has been preserved in excellent condition for over 600 years. Currently, the number of gates in the city wall reaches 18; some of the gates are closed to the passage of this ID to preserve their cultural heritage. In our time, the wall is open to tourists for a charge; you can walk along the city wall and enjoy beautiful views of the old town and the surrounding area.
