Boiling Lake: Dominica’s Giant Volcanic Lake

Deep in the rainforest-covered mountains of Dominica, a lake churns beneath a veil of steam. Dominica’s Boiling Lake is not the kind of place you come across on an ordinary walk through the forest. Tucked away in the mountains of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, it sits at the end of a tough trail through the Valley of Desolation. The water is always moving, with bubbles breaking across the surface and steam rising into the air.

Cardrona Bra Fence: New Zealand’s Famous Bradrona

In New Zealand’s Cardrona Valley, a roadside fence became known for something few people would expect to see in the middle of the countryside: hundreds of bras hanging from its wire. The attraction, now widely associated with the name Bradrona, began as a small and unexplained act. Over time it attracted visitors, provoked debate and adopted a charitable mission.

Steepest street in world | Baldwin street in New Zealand

Baldwin Street, Dunedin, New Zealand Urban Range is 35 percent or 19 °, meaning the 2.86-meter road rises by one meter. Baldwin Road is located in the North East Valley. The road is only 3500 meter long and climbs up Signal Hill with a beautiful view of the Otago harbor. Baldwin Road has a portable surface, not asphalt for better grip to facilitate care and safety in the winter Dunedin snow. Roads running parallel to Baldwin are all very narrow. In the mid-19th century the layout was surveyed by Charles Kettle. The road is named after William Baldwin, Otago Provincial Councilor and founder of the newspaper, who divided the area.

To Sua Ocean Trench: Samoa’s Giant Swimming Hole

On the southern coast of Upolu, Samoa, a narrow ladder leads down into an enormous pool of clear blue-green water. This is the To Sua Ocean Trench, one of the most unusual natural attractions on the island. The name can sound mysterious, but its meaning is surprisingly simple. Samoa Tourism translates To Sua as a “giant swimming hole.” The pool is about 30 metres deep, and visitors reach the water by climbing down a long ladder to a platform inside the natural opening.
