Man with the golden gun Island — Khao Phing Kan and Ko Ta Pu were featured in the 1974 James Bond movie The Man with the Golden Gun. They became known as James Bond Island and are often referred to in tourist guides. This little tall island was an isolated, unexplored area before 1974. It was however chosen to be the backdrop for the 1974 James Bond movie "The Man with the Golden Gun", where Bond's antagonist Francisco Scaramanga hides out. It became a popular tourist spot after the movie was released. The popularity and increase in tourism led to a lot of litter at Khao Phing Kan Thailand.
Thailand James Bond Island — 1981 saw the island become the most well-known part of the Ao Phang Nga Marine National Park. Tourist boats cannot approach Ko Ta Pu from 1998 onwards. This prevents erosion of limestone rocks around the islet, which could eventually cause the island to collapse. Khao Ta Pu is an approximately 20 m tall limestone rock. The diameter increases from 4 metres near the water level up to 8 metres at it's highest point. It is about 40 m west of Khao Phing Kan.

Ko Tapu (James Nond Island) — The legend that explains Khao Ta Pu's formation is based on a local legend. One day, there was a fisherman that brought back many fish from the sea. One day, he couldn't catch any fish despite his many efforts and only managed to capture a nail with the net. He kept throwing his nail back into water and caught it again. He was furious and took out his sword to cut the nail in half. Khao Ta Pu formed as a result of the impact.
James bond rock — Scientifically, the ko tapu (james bond island) Formation says that the area was a barrier-reef during the Permian period. After tectonic movement, it burst, and the pieces were scattered over the area, which was flooded by the rising sea. Wind, waves and water currents gradually eroded these islands, sometimes creating unusual shapes such as Khao Ta Pu. The rock's bottom is evidence of tide-related erosion.
James bond Thailand — Francisco Scaramanga, James Bond's film The Man with the Golden Gun describes Khao Ta Pu to be a "mushroom-shaped stone" that houses two large solar cells. These panels are located on Khao Ta Pu's top and lock onto the Sun.
