Orlando Towers of South Africa

Orlando Towers is a distinctive landmark in Soweto, Johannesburg, South Africa. The original Orlando Towers were a coal-fired power plant. This is also a site of the world's first-ever bungee jump between these 333-foot-tall twin cooling towers. It is almost impossible to miss two Orlando cooling towers as a stroll through Soweto's Orlando Township. This township was home to many of South Africa's most notorious anti-apartheid clashes during the 20th century. The 33-storey towers can be seen from the entire township, as Soweto is almost entirely made up of single-storey homes.

Orlando, South Africa — In 1942, the Orlando Power Station was built to serve Johannesburg's rapidly growing population. The Orlando Power Station was built in Soweto by British engineers. It was completed in 1955. It was operational until 1998, when it was shut down. The original power plant building was destroyed in 2014. However, its two cooling towers, which are still a landmark in the city, have not been damaged. These towers are covered with vibrant murals that reflect the city's cultural revival. Skyriders, a local company, turned these towers into a vertical adventure centre. It is now one of the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa.

Today, extreme sports like bungee jumping and rappelling still take place at the Twin Towers in Johannesburg, South Africa. You are lifted up to 300 feet and then cross a narrow bridge between the towers. The view of the township is breathtaking. Bungee jumping, which is open to all jumpers from 35 to 115 kg, is the most popular activity in the towers. The towers' SCAD-free fall is, however, the highest in the world. The towers also have a paintball and rock climbing area. Visitors can also ride quad bikes on a tour of Soweto with Soweto Outdoor Adventures. All activities are subject to weather conditions, and the advent centre is managed by experienced professionals. Bookings for larger groups are encouraged. Children under 18 must have the consent of their parent or guardian.
