The longest sea bridge in the world connects Hong Kong with Macau and Zhuhai. This bridge-tunnel system includes three cable-stayed bridges, an undersea tunnel, and two artificial islands with a total length of 55 km.

The most significant part of the overpass is the 30km Main Bridge and a 6.7km undersea tunnel that lies below the Pearl River mouth and emerges at the other end near the Hong Kong border. The undersea tunnel was built to avoid disrupting shipping routes. The route then continues over a 9.4-kilometer viaduct and ends at the island of Chek Lap Kok.
The $20 billion Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau bridge is hailed as a key part of the Greater Bay Area project, linking Hong Kong and Macau with 11 Chinese cities to form a tech zone highly competitive with Silicon Valley (California).

The Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge will also be one of the first to require drivers to wear heart rate and blood pressure monitors when crossing the bridge. This information is sent to the bridge's control center. There will also be security cameras to detect drivers yawning. If a driver yawns more than three times in 20 seconds, the camera will signal an alarm.
