There are many must-see places in South Korea. But recently, the list of attractions in this amazing country has been updated to include Purple Island. Not long ago, Asian social networks were stirred up by information about the appearance of such an interesting place. This is, so to speak, Banwol Island. South Korea is the most Instagrammed island in South Korea. As you can understand from the name, this place is a real paradise with huge fields of lavender, empress trees that bloom with purple flowers, purple houses, bridges, and even roads.

In fact, this is a collection of three islands (two of which are minimal). They are located in Sinan County, South Jeolla Province in the southwestern part of South Korea. Location below the post.

Why exactly this colour?
As many as three islands have become an unusual attraction. Two of them (the ones that are small) are the most attractive.
It is not known exactly how the idea came about to turn Banwall and Bukji Island – actually two tracts of land connected by a large wooden bridge (purple, of course) – into the Purple Island.
There is speculation that the name was given to purple sweet potatoes, purple bells, and purple onions.
However, in 2019, Sinan County, South Jeolla Province, announced the creation of a unique tourist destination.

The plans included planting about 40,000 lavender bushes and thousands of Empress trees (aka Paulownia felt in a scientific way), as well as other plants. In addition, the apartment buildings had to be painted purple. As a result, roadside sights and even the roads themselves were painted in this colour.

In addition to an insane amount of enchanting shades, it is worth highlighting the bridge connecting Banwal and Bukji island. It is better to visit it at night, as it is at this time that it is filled with rich colour.

Rooms in hotels, restaurants, and toilets are all purple. Yes, and some of the local cars too.
Unusual graffiti
On the way to the island and back, you can see an interesting object. The result is a rather attractive pattern, complemented by the crowns of camellia trees.
Graffiti decorates the fence of one of the houses in the village of Amte-myon. The picture shows the married couple Song Suk Sim and Moon Byung Il, who actually live in this house. Locals say that initially a woman's face was painted on the crown of the camellia. It turned out very original. Therefore, her husband planted another camellia nearby and asked him to draw his face too. The result is such a touching picture. Ideally, of course, it's worth spending at least a couple of days here. For one, you definitely cannot fully enjoy this miracle.

Experienced tourists are advised to dress in purple tones, and then the visit will be free. If you do not have such clothes, then rent something purple, for example, an umbrella.
