The Royal Rock Tombs at Naqsh-e Rostam, Iran

Naqsh-e Rostam, or The Throne of Rostam, is an ancient burial site for Persian Kings located 12 km northwest of Persepolis in Fars Province, Iran. There are four tombs carved into the cliffs in the shape of crosses, all lying about 10 to 20 metres above the ground. The tombs are said to be those of Darius II, Artaxerxes I, Darius I, and Xerxes I. At the Naqsh-e Rostam site, there are also some bas-reliefs carved in the rock representing war scenes and royal events. The Kaba-ye Zartosht tower is a cubical structure thought to be either a royal tomb, a calendar, or a treasury.

The Ochopee Post Office, Florida | The Smallest Post Office in United States

The Ochopee Post Office is the smallest in the United States. It is a regular stop on the South Florida tourist circuit. The historical marker at the post office offers up its history. The original Ochopee post office, established in 1932, operated out of a general store. When fire destroyed the store in 1953, Postmaster Sidney H. Brown opened a temporary post office in an irrigation pipe shed on a tomato farm. But what was once temporary became permanent, and the former pipe shed has been a post office ever since. 

Hoba Meteorite: The World’s Largest Intact Meteorite

A giant piece of metal sitting quietly in a field may not sound like the sort of thing that draws visitors from around the world. But the Hoba Meteorite is no ordinary piece of metal. Near Grootfontein in northern Namibia sits a roughly 60-tonne iron meteorite, an object that came from space and eventually landed on Earth. It was discovered in 1920, and unlike many large meteorite impacts, it did not leave a clearly identifiable crater behind.

The Uros, Floating Islands of Lake Titicaca, Peru

Uros Floating Islands on the lake of Titicaca, Peru — One of the earliest pre-Inca cultures of Peru. Uros Island, one of the most famous islands of Lake Titicaca, is located 6 km from the port of Puno and located at a height of about 3,800 metres. It is an amazing archipelago of 40 islands of totora, inhabited by the Uros, direct descendants of one of the oldest cultures of the continent. The origin of the town of Uro was lost in the labyrinths of history, but it presumably descended from Pukinas, one of the oldest communities in South America. The men of this floating community claim to be the owners of the waters of Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is one of the most enigmatic and popular. Natural border between Bolivia and Peru, but nevertheless, it does not freeze due to the salinity level. Good size and height. Its deep blue colour, because of its depth, reaches 280 metres in some places, and its landscape, surrounded by mountains, makes it a wonder of nature. 

The Huka Falls, Pumps over 220,000 litres of water per second

The beautiful Huka Falls are located near Huka Village, a short drive north of Taupo, New Zealand. The Huka Falls are the largest falls on the Waikato River and New Zealand's most visited natural attraction. With fabulous blue-green hues, the Huka Falls are a breathtaking sight to behold. Though not one of New Zealand's highest waterfalls, the Huka Falls pumps over 220,000 litres per second of crystal-clear water over its rocky steps, making it one of New Zealand's largest falls.

Ossuary in a Wamba, Church of Santa Maria, Spain

Wamba is a curious town in the region of Montes Torozos, in the province of Valladolid in northern Spain. In the year 672, when it was called Gérticos, it was home to a fascinating character of Spanish history. The Mediaeval Ossuary in Wamba is in the Church of Santa Maria and contains bones from hundreds of villagers who died between the 12th and 18th centuries. The ossuary is home to a giant collection of bones, and like many other bone churches, the original reason for piling the bones up was a simple lack of space remaining in the cemetery. 

The Bell Tower of Curon, Italy

Reschensee or Lake Reschen in Italian Lago di Resia and in German Reschensee is an artificial lake in the western portion of South Tyrol, Italy, to be exact at Curon in Val Venosta. The Campanile di Curon " Bell Tower " is a leftover of the old town of Curon. Its striking landmark - a steeple towering from the lake, approximately two kilometers form the border with Austria, and three kilometers from the border with Switzerland. With its capacity of 120 million cubic meters and it is the largest lake in the province. Its surface area of 6.6 km² makes it also the largest lake above one thousand meters in the Alps. It is fed by the Adige, Rojenbach and Karlinbach and drained by the Adige.

The lake is famous for the steeple of a submerged 700 year old church; when the water freezes, this can be reached on foot. A legend says that during winter visitor can still hear church bells ring, but the bells were removed from the tower on 18 July 1950, a week before the demolition of the church nave and the creation of the lake.

The Salt Mine in Bochnia | Artistic Salt Mine in Poland

The Bochnia Salt Mine in Bochnia, Poland, is one of the oldest salt mines in the world and the oldest one in Poland. The mine was established between the 12th and 13th centuries, after salt was first discovered in Bochnia, which is also considered the beginning of salt mining in this area (year 1248), and became part of the Royal Mining Company Zupy Krakowskie, "Kraków salt works". The mine was closed some time after World War I. In 1981 it was declared a heritage monument. Excavated chambers, shafts and passages form an underground town, which is now open to sightseers. The mine shafts measure 4.5 kilometres (2.8 mi) in length at about 330–468 metres in depth below the surface, at 16 different levels.

Kosciuszko Mound in Kraków, Poland

Kosciuszko Mound "kopiec Kosciuszki" is the most famous mound in Kraków, Poland, raised in 1820-1823. it was erected by Cracovians in memory of the great Polish National hero Tadeusz Kosciuszko. The man-made mound modeled after Kraków's prehistoric mounds of Krak and Wanda. A sinuous path leads to the top, approx. 326 meters or 1,070 ft above sea level, with a panoramic view of the Vistula River and the city. It was completed in November 1823. The location selected for the monument was the natural Blessed Bronislawa Hill "Wzgórze bl. Bronislawy", also known as Sikornik at the height of 34.1 m, situated in the western part of Kraków's Zwierzyniec District. It is one of Kraków's four mounds.

Zero Milestone of Washington is based upon The Roman Empire’s Golden Milestone. The Zero Milestone was initially intended to be the place from which all distances in America were measured. The idea was proposed by advocate Dr. S. M. Johnson. It was officially approved on June 7, 1919. He was inspired by this idea by the Forum's Golden Milestone in ancient Rome. A strong supporter of the Good Roads Movement, which advocated for better roads throughout the U.S. in the late 19th and early twentieth centuries, Johnson also saw the Forum as a source of inspiration. 

U995 Submarine | A Ship Museum at Laboe Naval Memorial

The U995 has found its final destination at the Ostsee beach just a few kilometers from Kiel. The Kriegsmarine put 603 submarines of VIIC/41 type into service between 1939 and 1944. It was one of the most important submarine types of the Second World War. From 1943 till 1945 the U 995 fulfilled several missions against allied convoys heading for Murmansk. In 1945 the submarine was captured by the allies and from then it served in the Norwegian navy. The submarine was stricken from Norwegian service in 1965 and the Norwegians offered the German government the boat in for the symbolic price of one Deutsche Mark (about 60 US cents), who turned down the offer, but was saved by the German Navy League, DMB, where its became a museum ship at Laboe Naval Memorial in October 1971.

The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library is the largest building in the world dedicated to the containment and preservation of rare books, manuscripts, and documents. It was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings, & Merrill and is located in New Haven, Connecticut. Situated on Yale University's Hewitt Quadrangle, the building was designed by Gordon Bunshaft of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill and completed in 1963. 

U.S. Route 50 – Loneliest road in America

U.S. Route 50, also known as US 50 or Highway 50, is a major east-west U.S. Highway route that runs just over 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from Ocean City, Maryland, on the Atlantic Ocean, to West Sacramento, California. The route passes through mostly deserts and mountains in the Western United States. The section of the route through Nevada is known as "The Loneliest Road in America".

Sacsayhuamán, Saqsaywaman, also known as Saksaq Waman, is a walled complex located on the northern slopes of the city of Cusco. It is often described as a fortress since it is enclosed by three slopes and has a series of parallel walls that zigzag and would expose the flanks of invaders. However, archaeologists are unsure of the purpose of Sacsayhuaman, and it's possible that it may have been a temple devoted to the worship of the sun or used to form the head of the Puma that Sacsayhuaman and Cusco make when viewed from above.

Perito Moreno Glacier, Argentina

The Perito Moreno Glacier or Glaciar Perito Moreno is a glacier located in the Los Glaciares National Park in southwest Santa Cruz Province, Argentina. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Argentina's most popular attractions. There seems to have a whole other sense of scale in Patagonia, and Glaciar Perito Moreno is a prime example. It's one of the largest glaciers not only in Los Glaciares National Park but in South America. Of course, part of the beauty of the glacier is that it's constantly changing and unlike just about every other glacier in the world, this one is swelling and growing steadily - rather than receding - at a rate of up to 7 feet a day, not counting the massive chunks of ice that fall off the façade into the Canal de los Tempanos as well.

Split Apple Rock is a geological rock formation, Located in the turquoise hues of the Tasman Sea in Abel Tasman National Park on the South Island of New Zealand, sits the unique rock formation known as Split Apple Rock. Made of granite, it is in the shape of an apple which has been cut in half. It is a popular tourist attraction in the waters of the Tasman Sea approximately 50 metres off the coast between Kaiteriteri and Marahau. Abel Tasman is the smallest of national parks throughout New Zealand covering an area of approximately 22,530 hectares. Strokkur Geyser, Iceland

Strokkur is a fountain geyser in the geothermal area beside the Hvítá River in Iceland in the southwest part of the country; it is located near the capital Reykjavik, Strokkur one of the most famous active iceland geyser and European country. Its name comes from the Icelandic word churn, "milk." It often erupts every five to eight minutes, which has become attractive tourism in Iceland. The average height of each eruption fluctuates between 15-20 meters, although there have been sometimes when it has reached 40 meters in height.
