Black Sand Beach, Iceland

The fantastic black sand and pebble beach near the town of Vik I Myrdal, the southernmost settlement in Iceland. This sand originated from the basalt lava that covers much of the area. Because black sand isn’t routinely replenished like most beach sand when storms and tides wash the sand away, black sand beaches tend not to endure very long. The geology of Iceland is comparatively young -- it owes its existence to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge that splits the island in half. Volcanoes along the ridge, such as Katla, erupt with some regularity continuing to add surface area and mass to the “land of ice and fire” and to augment the black sand beaches.

Denmark and Sweden Connected by Oresund Bridge

Oresund Bridge — A unique structure, present a modern miracle. It passes through the air, underground and underwater. The 7.8 kilometres-long cable-stayed bridge forms an important part of the fixed link between Denmark and Sweden. From the Swedish city of Malmo to Copenhagen Airport. It connects the road and rail networks of the Scandinavian Peninsula with those of Central and Western Europe. The crossing of the strait is completed by a 4 km underwater tunnel, called the Drogden Tunnel, from Peberholm to the Danish island of Amager. The term Øresund Bridge often includes this tunnel.

Silfra Crack | The rift between two Continents

The Silfra crack or fissure is a rift that is part of a divergent tectonic boundary located between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates.  Diving down the Silfra crack allows divers to be able to swim between continents and actually touch two tectonic plates at the same time.  These two tectonic plates drift apart roughly 2cm per year.  The Silfra crack is located at the rim of Þingvallavatn Lake located within the Thingvellir (Þingvellir) National Park, South Iceland.

Salinas Grandes | The salt desert of Argentina

Salinas Grandes - one of the world's largest salt flats, located in central-northern Argentina. It is spanning the borders of four provinces, that is Córdoba, Catamarca, La Rioja and Santiago del Estero, at an average altitude of 170 metres above sea level, at the foot of the Sierras de Córdoba mountain range. It covers an area of 6,000 km². It is very similar to Lake Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia. 

Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano, Tanzania

Ol Doinyo Lengai, "Mountain of God" in the Maasai language, is located in the north of Tanzania near Lake Natron and is part of the volcanic system of the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. Altitude - 2962 m. The volcano is located in a part of the fault zone, which is called Grid Sikes, where, as expected, the crust is particularly thin. This is - one of the most unusual volcanoes in the world. The only one that spews natrocarbonatite lava.

Bigar Waterfall, The Unique Waterfall of Romania

Biggar waterfall also known as Izvorul Bigar, in Romania is a unique creation in the world. 9 de Julio Avenue — The widest street in the world is located in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. The street 9 de Julio Avenue, which received its name in honor of the Independence Day of Argentina, July 9, 1816.

It covers the entire city block. Autonomous City of Buenos Aires avenue has up to seven lanes on each side and is surrounded on each side by parallel lanes of two lanes each. There are two wide connections between side-streests and main-road. The total width of the road is 110 m. Such a huge road was built as a result of joining two quarters moving parallel.

Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet

High on Moburi means Red Hill, in central Lhasa, stands the world famous Potala Palace. It was built as the center of Tibetan government by the fifth Dalai Lama in 1645. The chief residence of the Dalai Lama until the 14th Dalai Lama fled to India during the 1959 Tibetan uprising. It was inscribed to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994. This amazing palace has the honor of being the highest ancient palace in the world, with its highest point reaching 3,750 meters or 12,300 feet above sea level, towering 100 meters or 300 feet above the city of Lhasa. This 13-stories-high palace has over 1,000 rooms, and covers over 13 hectares or 32 acres. The stone walls measure 3 meters or 10 feet)thick on average.

The Solkan Bridge, Slovenia

The Solkan Bridge or Ponte di Salcano is a 219.7-meter or 721 ft arch bridge over the Soca River near Nova Gorica in western Slovenia, For the main arch, they needed 4533 exactly fitted stones of limestone. The bridge arch span of 85 meters or 279 ft, it is the longest stone bridge in the world and the longest stone bridge among train bridges. It holds the record as later construction technology used reinforced concrete to build bridges. It was originally built in the time of the Secession, between 1900 and 1905, and officially opened in 1906.

The Needles Lighthouse, England

Needles lighthouse was built in 1859 under the leadership of a private organization "Trinity House", obeying the Royal Charter of the United Kingdom.  The project is based on the ideas of the famous Scottish civil engineer James Walker. Set in the western approaches to the Isle of Wight, the Needles form a narrow chalky peninsula which rises from jagged rocks to 120m cliffs. These rocks have always been a hazard to ships making their way up the Solent to Portsmouth and Southampton Water.

Maspalomas Dunes in Spanish Dunas de Maspalomas are one of the most picturesque places in Gran Canaria, Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands, representing a piece of sandy desert, which spreads over 4 km along the coastal area of the island. The sand originated from coral reefs crushed into reasonable golden grains of limestone by the grinding action of glaciers approximately more than thousands of years ago. The present ocean dragged them to the shore and ultimately wind accumulated them into dunes.

The Heart-Shaped Flower, Anthurium

Anthurium is a genus of about 1000 species of flowering plants, the largest genus of the arum family, Araceae. General common names include anthurium, tail-flower, flamingo flower and lace-leaf. The name comes from the Greek and means "flower-tail." And indeed the flower of this plant is unusual. On long peduncles blossoms white, pink or red slightly re-curved towards the veil - bracts. It is dominated by a straight or slightly arched, different from white to red head - small flowers inflorescence. Plant leaves are large, smooth and shiny, and the flowers stand out above them due to high stalk.

Al Hajjarah | Ancient Village on a Cliff, Yemen

Al Hajjarah sometimes spelled Al Hajarah or Al Hajjara is a village in Yemen. The word Hajar means 'stone", was built in the mountains of Kharaz in the XII century by the Sulaihids, and became an important fortification during the Ottoman occupation of Yemen. It is located in the Manakhah District of the Sana'a Governorate. The basis of the ancient settlement amounted to huge multi-story houses, formed of massive stone blocks extracted in nearby quarries. High brown buildings with flat roofs resemble modern skyscrapers.

Lombard Street, San Francisco | The Most Curviest Road in the World

Lombard Street is the title of the winding streets of the planet. It is located in San Francisco, California, USA, it is also the most visited by tourists, as included in all tourist routes of the city. Lombard Street  is famous for a small section near the top of Russian Hill, between Hyde and Leavenworth streets. Here the hill is so steep (27°) that it would be too dangerous for most vehicles, so between 1922 and 1923 this part of Lombard Street was transformed into a switchback with eight sharp turns. Cars can only drive downhill, east-bound towards Leavenworth Street.

Isn't it a very strange name and who could only think of calling it that? At first glance, this name seems to consist of a random set of letters, but this is not entirely true.
